Agnes Goerke

Agnes Goerke studied church music in Hannover, Germany (organ/Ulrich Bremsteller, piano/Bernd Goetzke, choir conducting/Heinz Hennig) and at the University of California, Berkeley (organ/Larry Moe, choral and orchestra conducting/Philipp Brett). She participated in international organ master classes with Harald Vogel, Lionel Rogg, Guy Bovet, Gillian Weir, Daniel Roth and Kimberly Marshall. After completing the A-diploma/masters degree for church music she was appointed organist and choral director at Pankratiuskirche, Burgdorf in 1991 and moved on four years later to Stephanuskirche in Düsseldorf. Since 1999 she lives with her family in Helsinki, Finland.

As freelance church musician she worked in the german and in the anglican congregation of Helsinki as well as in finnish parishes, playing organ and leading choir projects. She directs the annual Service of Nine Lessons & Carols in Helsinki cathedral and the annual “Most beautiful german carols” concert in Turku cathedral with choir, orchestra and organ.

Since 2018 is she music director of the German Congregation in Helsinki, where she plays the organ, directs choirs and vocal ensemble, gives musical education in the playschool and leads chamber music.

Besides her congregational musical activities Agnes Goerke teaches piano at the german music school in Helsinki. As pianist she co-developed and played music history and pedagogic concert series performed in many schools in southern Finland. She was musical director of the Agora charity concerts, where young musicians perform alongside with professionals.

As recitalist Agnes Goerke plays organ and chamber music concerts and accompanies choirs and soloists. Outside Finland she has played organ concerts in Germany, France, Austria and the Czech Republic.
