Michael Metzler

Michael Metzler belongs to the first squad of the world-wide frame drum family. Inspired by virtuosos like Glen Velez in New York or Ahmed Subhy in Cairo he has made this very special kind of percussion well known in Europe and gone on to develop it further. Meanwhile, more significant than the list of his teachers is those of his students, among whom outstanding drummers such as Andrea Piccioni or David Kuckhermann belong to. Since he was 26 he has made more than one hundred CDs documenting productions of his world-wide concert, studio and teaching activities within the field of early music. This led him to regular appearances with ensembles such as The Harp Consort, Freiburger baroque orchestra, Akamus and countless own projects to Asia, Australia, Europe, Mexico as well as Canada and the USA. Originating from a Saxonian foundry family, since 2001 he is engaged in the casting of historical bells and glockenspiels. Michael Metzler is an internationally sought after teacher in historical percussion.
